Keyboard shortcuts

Everything in ClipTrail works without a mouse. Press ? in the dashboard to see this list in the app.

These tables are generated from the app's own shortcut sheet, so they match what the app shows. On macOS (experimental) the app shows ⌘ where this page says Ctrl for in-window shortcuts.

Anywhere

Global hotkeys work while any app has focus. Both can be changed in Settings → Shortcuts, and the dashboard hotkey can be turned off.

On macOS the defaults are Cmd Shift Space for the picker and Cmd Ctrl H for the dashboard (Cmd Option H is the system's "Hide Others").

Changing the hotkeys

  1. Open Settings (Ctrl , in the dashboard, or Settings… in the tray menu).
  2. Under Shortcuts, click the current hotkey and press the new combination. Esc cancels.

A global hotkey needs Ctrl, Alt, Shift or Win unless it's a function key (F1–F24), and Shift plus a letter alone isn't allowed because it would block typing. If another app already owns the combination, ClipTrail tells you; see hotkey conflicts.

Linux on Wayland: global hotkeys registered by apps don't reach most Wayland compositors. Bind a desktop shortcut to cliptrail --picker instead — it opens the picker in the already-running app. The in-window shortcuts above are unaffected.
